I was fortunate enough to get free invites for the grand opening of Velvet Dragon and visited the newly revamped club when it opened on the 11th of May 2007.
For those who don't know, Club Momo closed for a period of time and is now revamped with a new name 'Velvet Dragon'. Many of my friends thought the name sounded 'Ah-Beng' but thankfully, the decor proved otherwise.
The new place has very lush decor now and what greets you at the door when you first arrive is this really comfy sofa decked out in maroon velvet(of course!) and very plush cushions with the same material!
The live band is no longer there and the dance area seems much smaller than the previous Club Momo's dance floor area. But there were 2 'cages' that were at the sides of the dance area and it was kind of interesting to see people dancing in these cages!
There were lots of seating areas for members and in the midst of this seating area, there were 2 poles, ready for any daring souls to showcase their pole-dancing skills!
Overall, the decor is indeed, like what they claimed to be: a lush and stylish club. Chandelier lights, plush sofa seats, cool toilets(at least for the girls!) with gold toilet seats, gothic looking mirrors and nice sofas all within the toilet.
Music was only good at certain periods of the night, but I guess this would change according to the themes of the different nights.
Overall, the vibe was good... Lets hope that with the club up and running in the coming week, things will get better! :)
