Took my very first budget flight with Tiger Airways last Saturday to where i still am now, Vietnam, to Ho Chi Minh City. did not really enjoy the flight.
Yup, we all know that SIA is the best and Tiger can be compared in the same ways, but this means i too, lowered my expectations yet it was bad.
boarding the plane was ok, except that the moment you step into the plane, you would feel crammed and crowded. it was a 6am flight.
the plane is a 3by3 seater, but with just the size of probably 1 seater's walk way. the seat in my opinion, is wide enough.
leg space, however fails big time. how much leg space? lets just say, sbs bus leg space, get the picture? and if the person in front of you leans backwards, by a lot, just pray it would never happen, or else, you would just wish the hell out of you to kick the person in front right up to Mars.
And it did not help that i was sitting at the side seats, where the side walls take the curvy shape of the plane, giving you again, not enough leg space at the side this time.
Yes its budget Air but surely it can be improved.
There's 6 extra leg room seats located at the emergency doors at the center. you ask budget travellers to pay $25 to upgrade to this? haha. so, expectedly, it was left empty at take off. but no sooner than when the plane stabilises itself in the air, some season budget traveller moved to these seats, at no extra charge.
and just before landing, 1 stewardess persuaded these passengers to return to their seats and insist on the necessity. after this stewardess left, some passengers return again, and the other stewardess who walk past made no attempt to chase them off. what is this? isnt there any standard code to abide by? while the tiger airways site stated free seating, we were still located a seat number each.
how can Tiger Airways allow her passengers to bring out their ugly side of rushing to gain a better seat at no additional charge. it is possible to rectify this. give the seats to the elderly or the taller guys.
and the food on board is super super expensive.
the pilot too, i thought pilot should all be the same, of high standards. but he drove in a manner that made me for the first time, motion sick over plane. there were quite a few points when it just went left and right, left and right. it was a bloody nice weather that day. and when the pilot makes an announcement, his voice was muffled. it did not help when everyone could sense his bore in making announcements and that he wasnt too keen to speak it out clear, over the the speakers which seems dead far away and sounds wrapped with layers of dust. i was sitting right at the middle.
my advice is, even if you are really on a budget, its not really a nice way to start your trip with a sucky flight and to end it off with an equally sucky flight. a ride on Tiger Airways is worst than a ride on SBS.
