I watched the moive Eragon last evening with loads of eagerness. Highly anticipated to be in the league of LOTR.But to my dismay, this moive was poorly directed and emphasized too much on his road to discovery to become a dragon rider.
Though it possess the Harry Potter & LOTR indregients, it failed to deliver that pow-wow effect. HP for its magical dimension incorporated in this moive and LOTR for its lowly standing (a farmboy)who turns out to have great powers. Nvrthless, it did not rise up to the hype it has created. First of all, the ensemble was totally mismatched. Eragon's love interest resembles more like his elder sister and Eragon's aide, Murtagh looks malevolence. The rebels against evil king looks more like a tribe with an African leader with weird futuristic costumes. One of my favourite actor, the unorthodox Mr John Malkovich did not shine in his role as evil King Galbatorix There wasn't much focus and direction for the battle scene. The director did not attempt to dramatise the battle. It shld be the climax of the entire moive but what a letdown! It only lasted 10-15 minutes. Shldn't more credit to be given to the evil sorcerer who died too quickly & easily under the sword of the 17yr old Eragon Maybe my expectations are beyond scale, it is a fictional fantasy novel written by a high school kid. Come to think again, Harry Potter's bitter fight with Dark Lord Waldemart and sweaty & weak Frodo doing his fatal climb to Mt Doom. So shldn't Eragon's mantle is to follow his predecessors Well...for Ed's oogling factor, I shall spare him any further criticisms. He managed to force some teary drops during his crying scene. Not bad for a teen who only has amateurish high school acting experience. Unlike me, I think the kids in the audience were totally intrigued. I only enjoyed the part where Jeremy Irons said that the dragon and its rider is to be as one. If the dragon dies, the rider stil lives but if rider dies so do the dragon. The dragon egg will only hatch only when it finds its master. This is the so-called destiny. It teaches those kids in the audience to really treat their pets well. Watch it if you have one part courage and three parts foolishness. ?
