The spirit of TR1 is completely gone in this remake. No more ambience of ancient civilization. Eidos Interactive also made a horrible mistake by incorporating game console control engine into a PC game.

The environments in the game look so new age, grasses as neat as a golf field. I can no longer feel the ages that have passed. Great graphic doesn't mean good ambience. Look at the picture of a same spot in the two games. The first one looks old, dusty and cryptic, although the graphic is horrible by today's standard. The second has great graphic details, but.......... you get what I mean, it looks so clean, like a popular tourist spot, with all stones polished.





The game controls and responses are relative to the computer screen not Lara. If I want to move Lara forward, I have to press the keys corresponding to that direction on screen, but not the forward key. I can't rotate Lara with WASD keys until the camera shows she faces forward, and most of the time I need to press 3 keys at the same time so that she jumps the direction I want. I wonder what is wrong with the programmers' mind? Not all gamers use gamepad.  And when in water, I have to press Shift to make her sink, and press Space bar to make her float, and WASD to move around! In TR1 it was Alt + direction keys, simple and straight forward. The camera view changes are so annoying, they are not issues in the old game.

The designer put those new moves inspired by Prince of Persia, e.g. grapple, rope wall run, swinging around horizontal stick into an old game. It has lost all its originality.
