It should have been better, it simply failed to sizzle. That pretty much sum up the show.

Shifting the focus from Ancient Egypt to China, a good move ideologically, but the flame is just not enough. The viewers do not expect anything witty, just give enough punch, enough convincing CG effects, enough laughing points, basically, do enough to let the viewers exercise our face (when laughing).

It was simply not packed enough. Perhaps with such a myth that was never in existence, it was forceful to create a substantiating story. No wonder it never did deliver.

Awkwardness with the casting.
1. Absence of Rachel Weisz as Evelyn. (Surely this sounds very wrong, any follower rather, the character dies than be replaced, especially when they are the leads. Its not that Maria Bello was not good, it's just that she was not the same, it's not family.

2. Michelle Yeoh. Her Mandarin sounds weirder than Luke Ford's comical Mandarin. Let's just say I was stunned that her English was way BETTER than her Mandarin, and it was awfully silly when she called upon the buried dead to rise against the Emperor, in ENGLISH!!! Even if The Mummy is a senseless movie, it should not be void of sense till this? Especially when Michelle cursed the Emperor in some ancient chinese language back then, you mean the curses could mutate or change form and evolved into English Scripts after 2000years? I didn't know words could take up lifelong learning courses!

3. Jet Li is a plus point. From a Kungfu man to one who can portrays of the rightful emotions the cold blooded Emperor emotes, it is a shame that majority of the time, it was a CG-ed Terra Cotta Jet Li seen.

All otherwise, its The Mummy, with less spices, but more bucks spent that's all. The emperor was like a tamed dog, and the supposed method to killing was.. kid's play. They should have just let Rick lose and end with the Emperor gaining big powers. This gives them breathing opportunity for a 4th installment, and a probable ass-kicking ending. But alas, the evil must never win. And somehow, there's old tricks from Pirates of the Caribbean (you know what I mean when you watch the skeletons fight).

I watched Forbidden Kingdom yesterday, through persuasion from my mother. She's always been a fan of Jet Li and Jackie Chan, somewhat. I was imagining a 3 hour kung-fu movie like crouching tiger hidden dragon....

they completely made the story up, I'd prefer something like at least a fiction loosely based on real history.
