This movie is not for kids and its pace is too fast for parents to guide their young. So don't bring your kids to see this. The Dark Knight follows from Batman Begins and you already knew, he takes on Joker, Batman's number 1 adversary. And the interpretation of Joker is the most terrifying, its twisted image could burn to your pscyhe. Seriously, before this director started to film batman, who truly fear any of the foes of batman? The previous Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, Two-face, Riddler. What are they? They are either jokers or funny pscyhos who were eventually locked up in the asylum of Gotham. Only this director dare to offer you a truly criminal type of Joker. The first Batman in 1989 offerred a wrong interpretation of Batman, a furious vigilante who revenged his parent's death. And this time it is corrected, Batman never direcly kills anybody, he isn't a vigilante strictly speaking, just an over-enthusiastic private detective (the way I see it). In this movie's endling, the Batman finally crosses the line to become a "vigilante", too see how and why I put quotation marks, you should watch the movie. It's 2 hours and a half.
