I just caught the TV premiere of the NBC reality series " America Got Talent". It is a talent show that features beatboxers, yodelists, amateur singers, dancers, magicians, comedians and other performers of all ages competing for the coveted prize of US$1 million.
Watching Americans of different gender, race, shape and size coming up with those bizzare performances just for their one minute of fame, is simply pure entertainment. From the stripper grandpa, rapping grandma, ventriloquist to burlesque dancers, whatever sort of performances that you can think of all , will appear in this series.
In the eyes of Americans, these are ordinary folks with extraordinary talents. Sorry to spoil it. But the ultimate winner, to my surprise,is just a11yr old gal who has a singing prowess of a diva. Even I tell you the winner, I bet you still hog TV every Sun at 10pm on Channel 5 for those funny antics.
I wonder whether our local network will eventually buy the exclusive rights and start a Singapore version. The current " Live the Dream" is just another singing competition akin to Singapore Idol. Just that the age gap widens but that does not mean our talents have expanded. It is the same old tune and same kind of songs that an Idol contestant will sing. I can hear myself screaming " boring".
I wonder S'pore has talent...perhaps Steven Lim can audition! :P
