I AM LEGEND is a post-apocalyptic science fiction horror flim starring Will Smith as Robert Neville and Abbey as Samantha, the German Shepherd. This film is an adaption of a 1954 science fiction novel by Richard Matheson of the same title. RM is known to influence and popularize a whole new generation of believers on modern zombie genre and exploring the notion that vampirism as a disase.
This film pales in comparison to its progenitors: The Last Man on Earth and the Omega. Although it injected a new element into the movie by "villanising" mutants instead of vampires, it fails to deliver the goods. I dislike the computer effects of the mutants resulting in unreal footage.
Conversely, I enjoyed the directorial effort in showcasing Robert's psychology adverse reactions towards his sole existance on earth. One of the few scences in which he started a community of mannequins by treating them as real people proves to us that it was not possible to survive without companionship and community. His state of mental health is the precusor to his heroic end.Truly his willpower to survive in this complexity of the situation shows his determination to cure the human race and revert the threat of the mutant virus.
In particular, I enjoyed Will Smith's performace in this motion picture. His sincere and convincing acting touches me. Not many actors can able to boost box office sales by acting alone. Another great actor in mind is Tom Hanks in Cast Away 2000. Well...these two actors have been known to be part of the only three actors in the history of film to have seven consecutive US$100 million blockbusters, the 3rd being Tom Cruise.
