This movie was a big hit in Taiwan & HongKong few months back, I was not really interested to watch this movie because of the censorship in Singapore. But after few months of debates, the original uncut RA version is finally showing in Singapore.

My colleagues highly recommended this movie to me as he watched in HongKong few weeks back, and he said it was a very good movie. After I watched, yes I would recommend this movie to anyone I know.

Don't get me wrong, it is the story line that attracted me, not the "sex scenes" that you guys imagine (Btw, the sex scenes really gave me a shocked and make me "eye opening"  )

This is the brief story line quoted from Cathay cinema:
"... Shanghai, 1942. The World War II Japanese occupation of this Chinese city continues in force. Mrs. Mak, a woman of sophistication and means, walks into a café, places a phone call, and then sits and waits. She remembers…… how her story began several years earlier, in 1938 China. She is not in fact Mrs. Mak, but shy Wong Chia Chi (Tang Wei). With WWII underway, Wong has been left behind by her father, who has escaped to England. As a freshman at university, she meets fellow student Kuang Yu Min (Wang Leehom). Kuang has started a drama society to shore up patriotism. As the theatre troupe’s new leading lady, Wong realizes that she has found her calling, able to move and inspire audiences – and Kuang. He convenes a core group of students to carry out a radical and ambitious plan to assassinate a top Japanese collaborator, Mr. Yee (Tony Leung). Each student has a part to play; Wong will be Mrs. Mak, who will gain Yee’s trust by befriending his wife (Joan Chen) and then draw the man into an affair. Wong transforms herself utterly inside and out, and the scenario proceeds as scripted – until an unexpectedly fatal twist spurs her to flee..."

Many people can't understand or can't accept why the main actress (TangWei) will "fall in love" Mr. Yee (Tony Leung) and let him go away at the ending part of the story. Which resulted her teammates & herself being executed, which is very sad ending...

To me, she is just a little poor girl that need someone for love and care, and Mr. Yee is a man who gave her everything and of course, she can sense that he is in love with her...

The story line is nice and the film is well taken (Hollywood standard, not those lousy HK movies), but if this kinda of story happen in current time, I guess people will shout at you "Siao Arhh"...

Catch this movie if you can.

hmm.. I could understand why she fell for him and why she chose to save him.. but other than that, there is not much "thinking" generated haha. Guess it is a movie to showcase the cinematography effect thus is more visual than thoughtful.

To illzwong,
Of course they are not real!! They can make you feel it looks like so real, that is their most successful point.

To loh,
I guess you have misunderstood some part of the story. I don't see any point where the girl wants to make her earnings to go England.

First, the "acting group" in her college is not rich, they didn't plan to get any financial return or whatever. What they really want is to assassin Mr.Yee.

Second, her father flew to England with her brother during war time, this reflects the chinese culture where males are more important than female. Her father re-married again in England make her very disappointed (bear in mind that during those time, re-marry is a big thing in Chinese mindset)

Third, in the end, Mr.Yee gave her a big diamond ring. If she really only want to go England, she can easily sell the ring and run away.

Anyway, this is just my personal thoughts. Cheers!

 good story... but.....

I watched the movie too..... The storyline is very simple.... I dun like abt the facts - why woman need to use her body to "achieve" big business (revolution)? She just want to make her earnings to a path to England.... This is the price she has to pay. I believe why end of the movie, she let Mr. Yee go, because she knows that she will never have any chance to go to England at all, she lost the hope in life... This is a way to end her life.

In general, I appreciate the filming style.

 hahaa... the SUPERB sex scenes
Thursday, 06 December 2007 - Written by banwei
Ok, before I elaborate more, I must clarify that I enjoyed the story more than the RA scenes!!

The shocking part is the first sex scene, Mr.Yee has actually uses his belt to tie on her, pushing her hard onto the bed, trying to get control over her, looks like raping her.

Subsequently, the scenes show different type of sex positions, as wild as you can imagine!! I can't remember but i think at least 6 to 7 different positions.

Over the big cinema screen, you can clearly see the boobs, the butts, pubic hairs around... And you can see some "part" of his XX from the back. The best still the expression of Tony Leung when he is about to reach climax, one word to describe - SUPERB.

Near the ending part of the story, when they have deeper relationship, Mr.Yee treats her as "something" to relieve his desired, starting to torture her. There is one scene where you can see blood on Mr.Yee thighs when they're doing it...

"It is like a snake drilling deeper & deeper into my body, I can't stand it any longer", she said to KuangYuMin (LeeHom)

not yet reached the level to watch

Most poeple have that "purpose" of watching the movie. They just treat the movie like another Hong Kong 3rd class porno, unable to discern the art within.
