I am surprised no one reviewed on this movie yet, or perhaps you guys are waiting for mine? Anyway, I think this is really 1 good movie for all young and old, boys, gents, ladies or girls. But it’s definitely not Basketball version of Shaolin Soccer.

Why?
Shaolin Soccer is about Soccer, whereas Kungfu Dunk is about Fang Shi Jie and the people around him. Basketball is just to give the movie a theme. His interaction and relationship with Eric Tseng (acting as his manager) was damn touching and hilarious.

Actually, I was like, “Why is Jay so stupid as to agree to be part of this stupid movie by a director famed for low standard movies? I know and understand he was being supportive of Taiwanese Films, but, does he need to sacrifice his excellent records just to be patriotic?” For now, I’m s glad the director improved (as media players commended), which I guess the availability of fund, especially as a result of Jay’s involvement, did help. All this makes Kungfu Dunk a movie suitable for all age group, and be my “THE MOST” recommended movie this Chinese New Year/February period.

There’s simple and no-thinking required type of humour and laughter. Any kid above the age of 5, or maybe even 3, can look, understand and laugh. In fact, some things just simply trigger your laughter without the need to understand or think, it’s just “funny, so laugh”. Often than not, Eric Tseng’s expressions are comical enough to cause a laughing flood in the theatre (I was at Grand Cathay). Haha.

For guys, look, it’s Kungfu, and Oh~ that fighting scene in the pub!!! It was wholesome cool and hilarious at points (shan’t reveal spoilers by listing the hilarious parts). And the fight was surprisingly so much more real life than CGI-ed than I had expected. And I can’t believe when Jay did not use a substitude! And the basketball, Jay’s dunks are very fake, seem to defy laws of momentum or gravity at times, but who cares, and Jay’s team did/did not win (no spoilers policy).

For girls, going gaga over Jay? Seriously, and honestly, Jay does look ugly and old/shag in the movie (but it’s ok, I will still support him. We like Jay n we nd no reasons to explain.), so he’s definitely the wrong choice if you expect him to be eye-candy. But luckily, there’s Chen Bo Lin (dubbed little Takeshi), whose entrance in the movie had me gasping, omg, Takeshi Jin Cheng Wu!!! He’s a drunkard, but he’s damn cool can?!!

For the intellectuals who wish to see beyond actions, there’s actually tears, especially in one of the final scenes, when Jay found his family, he leaves with them but not without turning his head back to look at Eric Tseng. That was so~ touching… And I really love to watch them appear together, they bring so much laughter, and a little of tears too. They seriously look like Daddy and Son.

Basically, there’s Kungfu, there’s Basketball, there’s fighting, there’s humour, there’s silliness, there’s love, and there’s of course, exaggerations too.

If my mum (who dislikes Jay because I like Jay) is surprisingly recommending this to everyone in my family, I think it’s really a movie suitable enough for a family.

PS. Charlene Choi had a really small role in the movie. In fact, although Jay appears 90% of the movie, he spoke very little too; I think you can attempt to count the total number of lines without difficulty. The movie was surprisingly so well-packed that I did not realize that 100minutes had passed when it just seem to have started.
