I went over to the new Ikea at Tampines last sunday to have a look. Wah, damn ulu the place. It's just beside the TPE, and actually quite near Pasir Ris instead. So I just walk there from the nearest HDB area in Pasir Ris. The distance is actually quite long because the entrance is not as near, need to walk straight up and u-turn. They should have construct a staircase from the side near the TPE so that people don't have to walk the extra distance.
There are a total of 3 ice-cream vendors strategically positioned near the entrance with lots of people who walking in like me queueing up.
I never thought that I need to queue up in order to go in!
I am directed to the carpark by the cisco police, controlling the traffic. And there is a long queue stretching 8 lanes of around 50 metres. It took me 20 minutes before i managed to be allowed in. Wah! I nearly considered to walk away seeing this long queue.
At the end of the queue, the shop attendents are handing out cookies, sweets and a small heart shape soft toy to welcome you.
The place is huge! And see the nice array of sofa as decoration.
Lots of people!!
The inside of the shop is not much different from the one at Alexandra, only that the store is much bigger and there are much more display. There are like twice as many custom design rooms and much more things on display. So there's actually nothing much that is unique from the Alexandra one.
But then, there are so many people that it's quite difficult to move around, i don't consider it is a good place to shop for furniture until the craze has cooled down. There's just too many people everywhere in the building, every custom design units are too packed with people it's quite hard to have a nice look around.
See! even got stick man.
I don't see much shop attendents around, only a handful sparsely dispersed at each category.
The self help furniture storage place is immense!!! I wonder how can people take the stuffs at the top. It's more like a warehouse, and where are the forklifts?
One good thing is that there are 28 counters there to service you, and i don't see any long queues at any of the cashiers.
However, the restaurant queue and hot dog queues are still bloody long. I don't quite get it, i can understand the long queue at the entrance, but queueing up just to buy hot dogs and pepsi?
And so much for the free gifts, they are distributing some blue ikea shopping bags for free at the exit!
And there's a huge table at a very incredible price outside the building, i wonder who will buy it.
$19.90 only! good buy, best buy, must buy! hahaha
Lastly, i would suggest you should rather go to the ikea at alexandra if you are planning to get anything from ikea until the ikea craze has smoothen down, there's seriously too much people for the place.
