Watched Harold & Kumar : Escape from Guantanamo Bay last Friday a day after its release. A sequel to the sleeper hit 'Harold & Kumar Goes to White Castle' which launched both Kal Penn and John Cho into the limelight as lead actors of Asian descent.
Although the first movie was a subtle dig at racial stereotypes, this sequel is a full blown satire with racial jokes and parodies unmistakably the train that pulls the movie along. No doubt, 'Escape from Guantanamo Bay' is a campy, fun and hilarious movie that will bode well with most audiences yet beneath the sometimes almost farcical humour, racial issues are constantly brought up and bandied around for the audience to mull over.
The plot is straightforward; Harold and Kumar plans to fly off to Amsterdam to meet Maria, the hot Latino chick whom Harold is in love with. In between is where the fun lies, from escaping too easily from Guantanamo Bay to crashing into a 'bottomless party'(where everyone walks without their undies) to dodging bullets while skydiving, the banter between John Cho and Kal Penn easily the highlight of every scene.
To me the best bit of the movie has to be the scene where a hunter offered the two titular characters some food and shelter. And of course, the discovery in the basement of the hunter's house.
All in all, Harold & Kumar : Escape from Guantanamo Bay is a fun and entertaining movie, worth the weekend price my friends and I paid for it!
