Stephen Chow's long awaited show for this Chinese New Year season came in a much different fashion this time, as compared to his previous movies. Unlike Stephen Chow's previous movies whose main motives are to make people laugh out loud, this one is obviously quite different. Other than using the idea of E.T. from Steven Spielberg, there are also reminisence of some famous scenes from his previous movies. I'll leave it to you to find out the scenes. This time round, Stephen Chow himself doesn't have as much screen time as before, instead, his son steals the show with his incredible encounters and hilarious imaginations with his outer space "pet dog". Stephen Chow played the role of an old construction worker working hard to pay for his son's school fees. Despite his poor background, he is keeping his son to study in a school for the rich, hoping that his son will get the best education. And the interesting part of the story unfolds when he picked up a "green ball" from the rubbish dump for his son as a toy. And as you would have guessed, the "green ball" unwraps itself and present to the boy as an "outer-space dog". As read from the press interviews with Stephen Chow, he mentioned that this time time he wants to make people cry, instead of letting people laugh. Well, there's just one short part near the end that maybe fits the bill. But I think the plot is just too predictable, and one would easily predict that the sad part will eventually turn out well. To my dismay, the story ends soon after the part. It's really quite short, around 1 hour 15 minutes. I expect it to be longer. Nevertheless, i think overall, the show is better than average, but not as good as "kung fu hustle" or "shaolin soccer". This one is more like a small family show.
