Do you think you will still love the same person just as much after half a century of marriage? Do you even think that is possible? And if you love your other half so much...so deeply....how would you feel if he/she drifts away from you......not physically, but psychologically??? "Away From Her" is truly a movie about the deep deep love between an old couple - Grant and Fiona. Sad as it is...the Alzheimer's Disease caught hold of Fiona...and she is losing her memory, sometimes bit by bit....other times by leaps and bounds.......until the moment she couldn't even remember Grant. Remember, this movie is about psychological departure........how Fiona drifted far far away from Grant....... Though you may think the general storyline is quite predictable, but you will be surprised at how novel the details of such an "Alzheimic" show are added through the movie....like how new characters are added along the way...and the progression of events in MeadowLane, which is the nursing home for Alzheimer's patients... Especially the way Grant shows how much he truly loves Fiona.....now I am fascinated at how deep their love is - true love.
The most surprising element will be the confusing state of mind of the spouse of Aubrey - Marriane........she was kind of lost and vexed...but yet tempted and desperate for a substitute for Aubrey, who only knows how to watch the sports channel.........she needs simply someone to dance, dine, chat, joke, chaffeur her around, and lastly, to have sweet sex with. And you will find out how the livez of Grant & Fiona, Aubrey & Marriane intertwine............if you watch this touching movie. Now some technical information... Definitely worth your money; As for eyecandy, well........Julie Christie (Fiona) is undeniably old already, but she is still charming........Grant described her looks as "direct and vague, sweet and ironic" in the movie......but she's a real great actress! The real eyecandy only appears for several seconds throughout the movie!!!!! Look out for the short appearances of young Fiona (Stacey LaBerge).....really pretty!! But i cannot find any photo or screenshot of her..........also got this "ang moh brunette ah lian" who came to visit some relative at the nursing home...she stopped by to chat with Grant on the sofa for a minute or two...........so go see them!!! hahAaa.... And finally, if you're afraid of watching long draggy totally monotonous lovey dovey shows about old people still loving each other, well.........this is definitely a sophisticated projection of such lovely affection....and there will be jokey moments in the nursing home for you to laugh at.....so no worriez ok! ;P All rightz...."i'll see you again tomorrow, i suppoze..."
