Located along Kandahar St, amongst many other nasi padang outlets, is Wisvry Padang Cuisine. A new addition to the area, Wisvry Padang Cuisine stands out from the rest with its nice and cosy interior and also the large display window brightly lit, showcasing the various type of food available.

We got seats and immediately set out to order the food! There was bergedil (potato cutlets), gulai lemak with vegetables, ayam goreng bumbu, rendang, two different kinds of sambal, grilled fish and also a plate of stir fry tempe and ikan bilis. For drinks we ordered the refreshing lime juice.

When eating padang cuisine in this area, one would tend to compare the food with Warung Pariaman’s food which have been serving out food down the road for ages. And am glad to say that the quality is definitely comparable, which is a feat in itself.

The bergedil was well flavoured and was a joy to eat as it wasn’t too soft or too hard. It was huge too. Dip it in the sambal dip or the kicap pedas dip, spoon it with rice and it is really, really good!

The gulai lemak with vegetables served here differed slightly from most I’ve tasted. It is tinged with a slow burning spice. Before you know it, you’ll be clamouring for glass of lime juice to cool your mouth down. But one can’t stop slurping it up as it is so tasty! The vegetables still hold a bit of crunch and the gravy is just mouth watering.

The ayam goreng bumbu although nicely flavoured was unfortunately abit tough. I’m not sure if it is supposed to be that way but the meat was just too tough to fully appreciate the flavour.

The rendang prepared here is just awesome. Soft, melt in your mouth meat well flavoured with the rendang spices. Authentic dry rendang that is soft, spicy, flavourful and simply divine! The grilled fish was served with kicap pedas and it was very good too. The fish was fresh and not overcooked. Goes well with the kicap pedas dip.

The stir fry of tempe and ikan bilis was nothing special. I’ve tasted better elsewhere.

Overall, the food at Wisvry Padang Cuisine certainly is of a high standard. Standouts include the gulai lemak and the rendang. Even the lime juice was really refreshing and thirst quenching. The decor and ambience of the restaurant is a welcome change from the other restaurants around the area that are usually hot and stuffy. It is cool and cosy inside and the outdoor seating isn’t cramped as they extended the five-foot way to accommodate the tables and chairs. The service was really friendly and hospitable. Food was served promptly.

I would definitely come back to Wisvry Padang Cuisine in the future. It is also suitable for functions or gatherings as reservations can be done and they have a 2nd floor with bigger floor space to cater to such events. Or if you’re in a rush, simply come and buy from their to-go menu!

sorry aishah!
i accidentally used your account to comment.
by the way your article on the Thai Food seems interesting. But how come the curry is not curry? I guess the Thai people have their own way of doing things, huh.
