Located in the famous foodie heaven, Tiong Bahru market, aligned in the rows of great hawker stalls serving mouth-watering local delights, is this chicken rice stall serving the nation's most widely renowned singaporean dish among the international communities. I was there at Tiong Bahru, planning to watch the show in 2 hours time, so in the mean time, me and my friends went over to Tiong Bahru Market to get dinner for our hungry stomach. It's a short walk from the mrt, provided you know the directions. Walk along the left hand side of the road, left ward from Tiong Bahru Plaza, cross the road when you hit a junction with a small road leading to some unique "tiong bahru looked" flats, then walk straight and you'll hit the market. The hawker center is at the 2nd storey btw, go up by the escalator.
There's a total of 6 of us, so we ordered one whole white steamed chicken, with 6 plates of rice. It's only $23, very cheap. That's only around $4 per person.
One great thing i like about it is that they there are no bones, except for the wings. I prefer to eat my chicken rice hassle-free. The chicken meat is very tender, and yummy of course. The meat is a bit cold, think they must have just got it out from the cold water, which is part of the process of making the hainanese chicken rice the singaporean way. Oh, and that means that the chicken is very fresh. There's this "meaty" taste if you didn't dip it in the gravy. So i'd prefer it to be dipped in the gravy to remove the taste. Nevertheless, it still taste as fine originally.
Oh yah, and there's this salted vegetable to whet your appetite more. A bit crunchy and having a mix taste of salty and sweety, the salted veggies added some delight in enjoying the chicken rice.
The chicken soup is normal, not very significant.
Well, what's a good chicken rice without the great tasty chicken-flavoured rice. Well, sure of it, the rice here is delicious and not too oily, And despite the rising price of rice, they still serve as generous amount to make sure we ate till our full.
Last but not least, i think the chilli is a bit quite spicy for me, the garlic sauce is a bit too watery too, not much to my delight. Nevertheless, i enjoyed dipping my chicken meat in the dark soya sauce. It's a great combination i think :)
Everything's gone while we finished. It's really good, no joke. Go try it next time if you happen to be around there!
