This Japanese restaurant caught my eye when i was walking pass Ang Mo Kio Central, claiming the food starts from as low as $2.90 a set, so i decided to give it a try. And yes, i ordered the one $2.90 set - katsu don, plus gst is $3.05. Oh..... ok. The place is quite like the sumo bento at Toa Payoh, got aircon and free flow hot green tea. But i would say the green tea is a bit too "dan4", or tasteless, as compared to the one at Toa Payoh. This one is like plain hot water. Next is the food, the set comes with marinated cucumber, miso soup and 2 slices of orange. The chicken is just like the green-tea, tastesless. The egg is ok, but the miso soup is too salty. I would say it's a bad combination. Altogether, it doesn't have the Japanese flavour i expected, more like hawker center food. But for such low price, air-con, free green tea and people serving you (bring the food and take order), i would say "mai hiam buay pai". A good place to hang around if you just want to slowly eat your meal and chat with your friends, with the free flow green tea, but if you are looking for something nice to eat, i wouldn't recommend the katsu don.( I only tried that, the others not tried yet, so hard to say.) The japanese store at ntu much more better!
