A "Marche-style" Japanese restaurant, Nihon Mura, or easier know as Japanese Village, is one of the restaurant chains owned by the suki group. This one i visited is situated in the Boon Lay Sports complex at the west part of the island, very near NTU. Within the place are a number of "stalls" specialised in serving a type of japanese food, for example, a counter for sushi, a stall for barberque, a dessert stall, etc etc.
The sushi on the conveyor belt
the barberque stall Then there are these ice-cream sticks at labelled with the food at the counter of each stall. To order your food, you just have to take the ice-cream sticks from the counter and put it in the little cup on your table, the waiter will then proceed to retrieve the ice-cream sticks from your table for the chefs to process your order.
Oh, and btw, that doesn't apply for the sushi, you just have to take whatever you want from the conveyor belt. This place offers one of the cheapest sushi in Singapore restaurants, pricing at only $0.99 per plate.
Well, with only $0.99 per plate, you shouldn't complain about the quality or how nicely it is made. The sushi are overall quite ok, the taste is also reasonably well, just that sometimes there will be some that are not made very nicely. See the red one above? Got a small piece of meat stuck at the side, not very nice la. Well, i shouldn't complain about that :p
One thing i'm quite disappointed is their cha soba. It looks good, yeah! I'm expecting high hopes for it when i see that it is contained in such a nice authentic plate. But really, it taste quite bland, shucks!
On the other hand, the tempura is much more delectable. In fact, they are so fresh, i just saw them swimming in the tank at the counter 1 minute ago, and then there are served nicely on my table. Yes, there's a tank of prawns at the fried stuff counter, so you can guarantee your tempura are the freshest you can get.
The croquets, quite nice, but just ok only.
The agadeshi tofu, very nice. But quite expensive. This one above is their normal fried tofu, also quite nice, and much more cheaper.
This is their katsu don, rice with chicken. It taste mediocre, and there's no egg on it! Just that it comes in a stone container, to make it stay warm longer. Nah, i think you can skip this item.
This is the ramen with pork meat inside. The soup is very "pork-y", having a very strong boiled pork taste. Personally, i digress it, yucks! Well, at least their dessert looks much more delectable. Their ice-cream combinations looks good, and it's big enough to be shared between 2 people.
Mango ice-cream with diced mango, topped with whipped cream, my all time favourite fruit.
Vanilla ice-cream with oreo.
Sinfully appealing strawberry ice-cream with strawberry jelly and chocolate strawberry! Oh, and last but not least, their free flow green tea comes as a pot, and 2 cups, serve 2 people only. They put rice in their green tea, i don't quite like the taste though. You can try the rose tea, much nicer, also comes in a single pot serving 2.
Lastly, the ambience of the place is quite nice, though a bit dark. There's adequate parking space at the basement too, very convenient. A good place to rest and relax, having dinner and some chatting after a day of school, work, or exercise.
