When i get an urge for a plate of Orh Mee aka Hokkien Mee, i come here, 'Hua Nam Restaurant'. This is more of a old school eatery rather than restaurant, very nostalgic. an old restaurant that has stayed on thomson road for years and years. i came here since young, and it was there since my dad was young.
Where is it? its on thomson road, the same street that houses 'Long House'. its at the same stretch of shophouses which included The Roti Prata House.
Here is like a Tze Char in a Shop rather than a stall. They sells roasted pork, duck, charsiew and chicken rice too. There's dim sum available too.

I went during the dinner time, so their ducks are all sold out.

i said that they are like tze char stall, that would be a higher standard tze char stall. I realised quite a few diners ordered their yam basket, wonder how it feels like but i dont like yam. and the indian family next to my table ordered the yam basket too. yup, indian family in a cantonese restaurant. i dont know how that sounds like but that's exactly how i feel it sounds like. and everyone who goes there will order at least a plate of either fried noodles or hor fun. nevermind what flavour or you like it wet or dry, each table will have this.
personally i feel that there dried hor fun and wet hor fun are just normal. as in when you compare with those good tze char, the standards are around there but never the most attractive one.

But the Hokkien Mee aka Orh Mee is really slurpy. even those good tze char stalls which gives you a thick black gravy, no matter how much salt or MSG they add, you can still taste the noodle taste, that yucky noodle yeast taste! Its that yeast which makes the water yellowish when noodles are downed in water. dont you ever feel that yucky taste spoil your plate/bowl of noodles?
there is definitely no such taste of noodle yeast here. even on its off days (maybe on these days the main chef is on leave? haha), Hua Nam's Orh Mee never taste of the yeast flavour. and Orh Mee is always served Orh Orh (Dark and black). the gravy is thick and slurpy. and there's fish, sotong, prawn, vege, meat in your plate of noodles. and they top it off with fried pork lard. heck the notion its unhealthy. when mixed with the noodles, it simply makes the noodles taste even better. if you do want to be slight health concious, mix it in your noodles but, dont eat them. just get the flavour out, no need to pop lard in your mouth.
i dont know what else to say, but if i want a plate of Orh Mee, i aint going to let any unknown chef spoil my day. Hua Nam is a guarantee for me. Orh Mee cost $3,5,8. Tze Char items are $8,10,12 and up.

and now they are making it more convenient for drivers on the go. 'Call and Collect'.
