Marche used to have two outlets in Singapore, one in Heeren and one in Suntec City. However, when for some reason, the Marche in Heeren was replaced by The Vilage which is an exact duplicate of Marche. Recently, I heard that the Marche in Suntec City was closed down as Suntec was undergoing some extension plans.. hence, I decided to head down to the newly open Vivocity Marche to give it a try,.. Marche is a unique restaurant as they allow people to order the food and watch the food being cooked right in front of them. Customers are given each a card that allows then to credit the items. They will only need to pay at the exit of the restaurant. The seating areas have different themes and the orange lightings make the whole ambience very cosy and comfortable.. The must try in Marche is of course the rosti. It always attracts long queues for it. It it actually made up of strips of potato that were pan fired, with add-on sides like huge chicken sausages. The rosti is topped with huge amount of sour cream that blends and match the rosti really well. It is rather a filling dish. The other dish that I particularly like is the ham and cheese crepes. Very yummy with a sweet and delicious sauce that adds much flavour to the crepe. In addition, the desserts (cakes) look really appetizing and appealing as they are all very colourful and neat. The crepe ice cream is also a popular dessert as you can choose the fruit add-ons that you want like banana. However, I was actually relatively disappointed by the lack of the usual made to order pizza. In the Suntec and Heeren branches last time, there was a pizza section where you can choose the toppings you want for the pizza and they will oven bake it for you within 10 - 15 mins. This section was missing in the branch in Vivocity. Instead, it was replaced by a bakery section where you just choose the pizza that they bake. In addition, the pizza dont look like those thin crust pizza anymore.. looks like those breadshop pizza with thick layer of bread base and little toppings. To top it all, I ordered a rib-eye steak from the roasting section. It was horrible! The beef was tasteless and hard and the sauce was not nice at all. It cost us $19.90.. so expensive and yet it was not done well at all.. I also tried a new dish which I think was called papella (seafood and chicken), something that looks like seafood platter in fish and co.. but a really lousier version. The orange rice was hard and it was very salty and oily!! It was not at all value for money as we were only given a few prawns and one mussel and chicken and it cost at $15.90 for one platter,,, All in all, I was pretty disappointed with the standard of the food in Marche.. seems to have dropped.. and on top of that.. the price still remains high.. will only go back if I want to eat the rosti and the crepe.. otherwise.. there arent other choices that are worth it.
