Food Republic latest edition is situated in Level One Suntec City Convention Centre.  Similarly to its predecessors, it adopts a theme. No longer the nostalgia pre-war era theme, this time round is simply just Victorian library. The wallpapers display whole loads of neatly arranged books and customized rustic wooden tables with antique tablelamps and chairs are spaciously arranged.I was pretty impressed coz the decor looks classy and imagine that, it is well-ventilated. No more stinky hair side-effects. Dining experience is quaint and delightful.

Though the stalls are almost similar such as favorites Yong Heng Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee and the beancurd stall (cannot remb the name).  I applaud for innovative names such as Sergeant Chicken Race Stall. At one corner, there is Toast Box serving nice pipping hot coffee and toast and various stalls lined up serving delectable local flavours.

The cooks are dressed like restuarant chefs with the chef uniform, crisp white apron and chef hat. In addition, out gone the aunty cleaners, in come young ladies dressed in impeccable black cheongsam, collecting your dishes. Initally I thought they are ambassadors but was shell-shocked when they revealed their identities. Somewhat, I was like dining in a restuarant just that do not have to pay service charge.

Their tagline "The best Asian Cuisine under one roof!" truly revolutionizes the whole concept of food court dining.  Food Republic has once again scored.

Food Republic @ Vivo City - Lau Di Fang - 28/06/08
Saturday, 28 June 2008 - Written by anoymous
Food Republic is one place I often avoid. The food is very expensive despite its wide variety. And the place is always packed with curious customers. It's always difficult to find a seat and when you are eating, people keep watching you finish your food and not mentioning people walking around brushing against you when they look for seats.

We are all sick of eating set meals. Thus my dad bought ala carte food from the curry rice stall instead of the stipulated set consisting of meat, vege & egg.

He ordered one vege side and a fish on a plate of white rice topped with curry gravy. He was charged $7.50.

The receipt read:

Vegetable x1 $1.00
Fish x2 $6.00
2 @ $3.00
Rice x1 $0.50
Total $7.50

Dad explained that he pointed to the chef in white cap an order of vege and an order of fish. However, the lady cashier counted the fish as 2 pieces simply because it was broken into 2 pieces when scooping it from the main dish.

As a typical Singaporean, we didn't really make a big fuzz out of it to avoid trouble. Dad just paid up unwillingly. We just swear that we won't ever go back to that stall that's all...

Poor me gotta hear dad's nagging all the way home.

Lesson learnt : Just stick with set meals. :(
