Ellenborough market cafe is located inside Swissotel Merchant Court, just beside Central @ Clarke Quay. It's also just right opposite the old "Tong Ji Yi Yuan" near Chinatown, so you can also walk there from Chinatown. It's a buffet restaurant offering chinese food, nonya food as well as a bit of western cuisine and desserts. Per pax entry is around $40.
Their seafood section offers a small variety of cold and raw seafood served fresh on cold ice.
Yep, the one on top is the mussel, it's big and juicy.
The oysters are not as big as the ones from Marche, but here you can eat all you want, haha. Watch the cholestrol level.
Sahsimi, i dun quite like this one, it got a fishy smell which i cant stand.
The salmon sashimi is more desirable for me. I dun feel like I'm eating fish at all. There's absolutely no fishy taste and i think it makes me feel like i'm eating nonya kueh made from glutinous rice. Nevertheless i quite like it.
Black pepper crabs! But it's very difficult to eat with knife and forks and i dun wish to eat with my hands in this quite "up class" restaurant. I wonder how people eat the claws without the tools. Nevertheless, i feel it's a bit dry, i prefer it to be slightly wetter.
The slipper lobster, or otherwise known as crayfish, is a popular dish. My friends are just whopping them up plates after plates.
Their "san cheng rou" are very power. The sauce is nice and the meat is tender. But then, almost all the pieces have more fat content than lean meat. Sinful sia..
Can't tell what is above? Haha, it looks odd and it's not on your regular menu. Oxtail, served in chinese style gravy. Not bad, but very little meat.
The nonya curry chicken is a nice dish, but is ok only.
Same goes to the chilli fish.
I quite like this prawn "snack". At first look, i though there would be a lot of flour content inside, but once i cut it up, it's actually full of prawn meat and i can hardly find any flour filling.
The Kueh Pie Tee is available at the nonya side. The cup and the ingredients are available separately, so that you can make your own kueh pie tee. Chopsticks are available.
A local dish - Mee Siam! I think it's too spicy for me.
The minstrone soup is ok only, nothing much special.
Ok, lets come to the desserts!
First of all is the chocolate cake. The top layer is like chocolate cream, but the bottom layer is a bit crispy. It's just simply delicious. Man, I'd give this one 5 stars.
The mango pudding must have very high mango content. It's not like the cheap ones from supermarket that are extensively sweetened. This one comes with a slight sourish taste.
Bread and Butter pudding. The first time i came across this name... hmmm.... anyway, not bad.
OK, this is the best i can find in the restaurant - Durian puree. It's soo..... whoppingly, incredibly, crazily Yummy! I bet no one will stop at one bowl. It got a rich durian taste and the texture is thick and smooth, sweetened of course. BEST!
